Learning Day – International Certificate in Place Management, London

Starts: 9.30am (0930) Wednesday 16th June in Westminster (venue to be advised to those who register)

Finishes: Approximately 4.30pm (1630 hours) leaving ample time to return to central London hotels before attending the Opening Reception for the World Congress.

The 5th World Congress organised by the Association of Town Centre Management and The International Downtown Association is the first ever event to offer an integrated International Certificate in Place Management from the Institute of Place Management (IPM).

The International Certificate is worth 20 credits towards the 180 required for a Masters in Place Management offered through Distance Learning by Manchester Metropolitan University and the Institute of Place Management. The World Congress in June 2010 will be the first to host this unique qualification, which is not available anywhere else!

The International Certificate has been designed around the World Congress main programme and all students will be required to register for and attend the World Congress itself. In addition, they will be required to register directly with the Institute of Place Management and attend this one-day lecture programme on Wednesday 16th June in central London, attend one 'surgery' session during the Congress proper, and submit a 3,000 word assignment after the programme which will be based on work in their own downtown, town or city centre.

The International Certificate topic is "Global Scanning, Local Planning" and will examine key global trends that are affecting or will affect downtowns, town and city centres and then require you to research and assess their impact on your location and to propose appropriate responses. This will form the topic for your submitted assignment.

The International Certificate programme will be led by Professor Cathy Parker and include contributions from other leading academics and practitioners.

The Learning Day will introduce you to methods for gathering intelligence and data, frameworks for the analysis of emerging trends and a variety of strategic responses appropriate to the development of places.

All delegates registering for the International Certificate will be entitled to Distance Learning support during completion of their assignment and will also be automatically enrolled as an Associate of the Institute of Place Management for a 12 month period (you may be entitled to a higher level of membership but this will require assessment).

Cost per person: Registration for the International Certificate costs £340 in addition to your World Congress fee. This includes all course content, delivery and assessment. Should you opt to continue your studies through enrolling for the full Masters programme, you will be entitled to a discount on the course fee. To register for the International Certificate please follow this link (please note your payment for this will be to the Institute of Place Management and will not incur VAT)
